Fiber is very important for keeping us healthy. But did you know fiber can also help you lose weight? There are two main reasons why fiber can help us lose weight.

  1. High fiber foods make you feel full, without making you put on weight.
  2. When fiber moves through your system it takes undigested fat with it.

So what are some high fiber foods you should be eating? Fruits like bananas, apples and berries. Whole wheat foods like brown bread, brown rice and brown pasta. And also raw vagetables and string beans.

Fiber should make up a large portion of your diet and you should eat as much as possible every day. There are fiber replacement products, like metamucil, but these only should be taken if you cannot get enough fiber from foods.

When you’re trying to lose weight it’s important to choose the type of meat you eat wisely. The different types of mean can be divided up into three categories:

  1. Fatty meat
    Fatty meats include sausages, chicken skin, chops salami, burgers etc. These types of meat clog up your arteries and will make you put on weight. Don’t eat these types of meat very often, if at all.
  2. Red meat
    Red meat includes steak, roast lamb/beef, ground beef and some types of bacon. These types of meats may hinder your weight loss efforts. They are good for you heath, but you must eat them sparingly. 3-5oz, twice a week is plenty.
  3. White meat and fish
    This includes chicken breast, lean turkey breast, fish and turkey bacon. These meats are very good for you. They’re very high in protein, low in fat and easy to digest. You should eat around 100 grams of these types of meats per day.

So there you have it. Try to eat white meat and fish every day, keep your red meat to a few servings per week and try and cut fatty meat out of your diet all together.

Think you can’t stick to a diet? You’re wrong, you can. Picture this scenario. You wake up in hospital after suffering a near fatal heart attack. The doctor says to you that you must stop eating red meat, cakes, pastries and chocolate or you will die. Would you not then turn oer a new leaf and start eating healthy? Of course you would.

OK, that was a pretty full on analagy. My point is, if you want to stick to a diet you can. Next time you think about straying from your diet plan think about what I said.
