Boar’s Head has built a reputation for quality and flavor over decades, and it’s a brand that gets a chef’s stamp of approval.”I like it because it doesn’t matter which grocer you purchase it at, you will always get the same quality product,” says Chef Andres Kaifer of Customshop and Emmy Lou’s in Charlotte, NC. For Melanie Portman, chef and recipe developer with Droolrecipes.com, there are two types of Boar Head deli meat she recommends: Ovengold Turkey and Genoa Salami. The Ovengold Turkey has a smooth texture without being “rubbery” she says. “It has a clean roasted flavor that works in everything from sandwiches to a quick chef’s salad,” Chef Melanie adds, “It slices thin without tearing, which sounds small but makes a real difference when you’re layering a panini.” The Genoa Salami is another favorite. “The pepper and garlic balance is perfect, and the quality is reliable no matter which grocery store I grab it from,” Chef Melanie explains.”It’s my go-to when I need salami for a muffuletta or a quick pasta salad.” Home chefs swear by the brand, too. “Despite the listeria scares from a few years ago, I’ve always found Boar’s Head to be an above-average deli meat and the one I gravitate towards,” notes Lisa Lotts, home chef, recipe developer, owner and publisher of Garlic and Zest.”The flavors are solid, and I love the variety. The look and texture are good without being rubbery or too watery. It’s a higher-priced option, but it makes a meaty sandwich and sub. Bonus, Boar’s Head sliced cheeses take any ‘wich to the next level.”

Columbus Italian Dry Salame combines authentic flavor, artisanal quality, and versatility, making it stand out on both grocery shelves and charcuterie boards. “This is what I reach for when I’m building an antipasto board,” says Chef Melanie. “The fat-to-lean ratio is spot on — it has that authentic Italian salumi flavor without being greasy. I’ve served it next to imported salami and guests can’t tell the difference.”

Dietz & Watson Black Forest Ham hits a sweet spot between traditional flavor and cleaner ingredients that many shoppers care about. According to Chef Melanie, it has a “rich, smoky flavor that doesn’t taste artificial.” She explains, “It holds up in cooked dishes too — I use it in my ham and gruyère crêpes, and it caramelizes beautifully without releasing too much water.”

Applegate Naturals Roast Beef delivers an unforgettable beef flavor and everyday versatility that many consumers find hard to beat in the deli aisle. It’s one of Chef Melanie’s go-tos because of the “cleaner ingredients.” She says, “It actually tastes like beef, not the salty mystery meat you get from cheaper brands. I use it for French dip sandwiches and it stands up to the au jus without falling apart.”

Hillshire Farm is a brand that’s consistent, accessible, familiar, and affordable—qualities that matter most for everyday eating. “Silly, but I appreciate the packaging – it’s easy to get into and reseal, instead of those zip-top packages, which always seem to fail,” says Lotts. “Additionally, the lunchmeat itself is neither too thin nor too thick, though the slices are larger than those of other packaged cold cuts, which is great for folding over on itself for a thicker, meatier-looking sandwich.” She adds, “The flavor is balanced with a light salt and smoke flavor in the turkey and ham. It’s a solid option. I use it in my “Knife and Fork Grilled Cheese” recipe.”

Citterio Parma ham delivers what many consider the gold standard of deli meat: simple ingredients, authentic Italian tradition and a delicate, craveable flavor. “It’s sliced paper-thin (so thin, it comes separated by sheets of plastic), buttery, and you don’t need a lot to bring a punch of true Italian flavor,” says Lotts. “Citterio has other ham varieties as well that are also very good for lunch.”

Kirkland Signature Maple Syrup is among the top 10 items in the warehouse. Multiple Reddit feeds name the item as one of the warehouse’s all-time greats. “Used to buy my organic pure maple syrup at the farmer’s market directly from the farmer. Average cost was $8 for 8oz. Great taste. And organic!” another adds.

Kirkland Signature Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream is regularly considered a favorite of Costco shoppers. Many claim it is more delicious than more expensive name brands. “The super premium vanilla ice cream is unbeatable,” one highly liked comment reads. The creamy ice cream is “the most delicious ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I’d heard all the hype and finally got some the other day, and boy did the hype deliver! Fan for life now,” another poster said.

Kirkland Signature Extra Crispy French Fries are crunchy, tasty, and delicious, with people claiming they are better than Ore-Ida. “We bought some and they’re pretty good. They remind me of the Lamb Weston hand cut freezer fries,” one shopper on Reddit confirmed. “Thicker cut and potato forward. I love them bought instead of the ore ida and won’t be going back as long as they sell them,” another added.

Kirkland Signature Laundry Detergent, and the pods are a must-buy for shoppers who want to save money without compromising quality. “This product is every bit as good as name brand competitors such as Tide! Costco brand paper towels are a staple in my house. Why pay more for name-brand when Kirkland Signature Paper Towels are super thick and absorbent? “I was a faithful Bounty user, then theirs became super linty and un-affordable ! Kirkland is pretty well priced, works great with no lint,” writes one shopper. “I have tried several different name brand paper towels, some were acceptable quality and others were very expensive yet the quality did not match the extra cost. The Kirkland brand falls right into what our family requires of paper towels. There are enough towels per role to eliminate the frustration of feeling like you are always replacing it. The quality is above average and the price is reasonable,” another shopper added.

Costco’s faux Ugg slippers are back, and shoppers claim they are just as high-quality as the name brand. Kirkland Signature Unisex Shearling Slippers are $31.99 on the website and less in the store, available in men’s and women’s sizes in tan and black. “I’ve bought uggs for my nieces and my fiancée, but I would never pay the Ugg price for myself. The Kirkland brand ones feel the exact same inside and seem to be made well and durable,” writes a shopper. The boot version is also back, just $32.99 on the website.

Skip the peanut butter this week and try the “almond butter.” A Trader Joe’s fan suggests giving their famous Creamy Almond Butter (Salted) a try for something different. “Way cheaper and for better ingredients.” Another fan of the grocery chain stands behind the “[Speculoos] Cookie Butter. Better than Biscoff IMHO [in my honest opinion].”

Skip the Kraft Mac & Cheese and give the Trader Joe’s Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese a try. “The boxed Mac n cheese. So cheesey,” a fan said. “I remove a small handful of the noodles because it’s too [many] noodles to sauce imo and do 2tbsp butter and replace half the milk with half n half otherwise the cheese sauce tends to dry out faster. That’s how I cook all boxed Mac n cheese and TJs is by far the best and also one of the cheapest.”

Fans rave about the Trader Joe’s Salad Kits. “Those salad kits, with a bag of arugula or spinach, is my go-to for potlucks. I just grab a bowl and tongs from home, stop by and pick a “lunch salad” and bag of greens, and freshly toss it all together before walking into a party,” one user said. “Makes a good size salad with a good amount of fun toppings and plenty of dressing. And with so many options, I never bring the same salad twice!”

Trader Joe’s has no shortage of dips and apps to snack on or bring to parties. “I love the grape leaves! Also the romesco dip in the refrigerated section is amazing,” one user said about Trader Joe’s. The Quinoa Stuffed Dolmas are dressed in oil, flavorful, and taste like restaurant quality dolmas.
